Project Citizen Annual 2009 State Showcase
On May 15, 2009 KIDS Consortium was host to the annual State Showcase held at the State House in Augusta, Maine. Middle school students gathered to share their public policy service-learning projects with one another and to adult policy-makers. During the public viewing of projects, each group of students displayed portfolios and binders highlighting their research and documentation. Students from Lyman Moore Middle School were recognized at the awards ceremony as this year's oral hearing winners with their project, Cyber Bullying. Each participating class worked for several weeks examining a local public policy issue by studying the impact of the problem on the community. They evaluated alternative solutions to the problem, proposed an agreed-upon public policy solution, and created a political action plan to enlist local or state authorities in adopting their proposed policy. 2009 Participating School Districts:Cape Elizabeth Middle School - Grade 8Teacher: Evan Solender Boothbay Region Elementary School - Grade 8
