KIDS Joins Androscoggin County Chamber of CommerceFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Auburn - KIDS Consortium, a L/A based non-profit organization, is delighted to announce that it joined the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce in May. KIDS Consortium is a nationally recognized leader in the rapidly expanding service-learning movement. KIDS works with teachers, administrators and students to involve students in addressing real challenges faced by their communities. Students identify, research, and work to address local community needs. With guidance from KIDS, teachers match service-learning projects to school curricula and state standards, providing a powerful "hands on" learning experience that improves the community and brings academics to life. KIDS Consortium is currently working in partnership with over 40 school districts around Maine and neighboring New England states. Since 1992, KIDS has supported over 200,000 K-12 students in service-learning projects, involving thousands of teachers and community partner volunteers. These service-learning projects span all grade levels and subject areas, addressing issues as varied as childhood obesity, water-quality and homelessness. KIDS Consortium has received national recognition from: American Planning Association Education Award (1996); Renew America Environmental Sustainability in Education Award (1998); Robert Rodale Environmental Achievement Award (2000); Renew America “Best of the Best” Award (2000); and the Harris Wofford Award (2006). Previously located in Lewiston KIDS Consortium moved June 1st to the historical Garcelon House at 223 Main Street Auburn.
