Project Citizen

KIDS Consortium is the state of Maine coordinator for Project Citizen. We offer Project Citizen trainings throughout the state for educators on integrating public policy with service-learning. At our workshop, you’ll learn how the curriculum is a cooperative learning process for students that involves identifying and researching a public policy problem in their community, developing their own solution, and creating and implementing an action plan.  We offer free classroom materials and ongoing support and instruction!

Project Citizen is a great way to meet the new and revised Social Studies Maine Learning Results (application of social studies processes, knowledge and skills).

Students and educators involved with Project Citizen will have an exciting opportunity to participate in our annual statewide showcase at the Maine State House. The 2008 showcase was a great success! Thank you to all who particpated.

Contracting with the Center for Civic Education KIDS is part of a national network of state and congressional district coordinators. The program is conducted with the assistance of the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Thanks again for the opportunity to participate in the Project Citizen Showcase. The students' work seems to improve each year. I've noticed that the young people have an increasingly better grasp of the meaning of public policy and how to influence it. KIDS Consortium continues to make a big difference in many lives by sponsoring wonderful programs and encouraging participation.
