Level One Project Citizen Showcase Criteria and Registration

Currently, the Center does not require a state showcase, or sponsor a national showcase for Level Two. KIDS Consortium hopes to develop a meaningful demonstration of student's accomplishments in the near future.

  1. The Oral Hearings provide students the opportunity to practice valuable presentation skills in a simulated legislative hearing. Students will present and defend their project to a panel of distinguished citizens.  Each team will have 4 minutes per panel, or 16 minutes total, to present.  At the end of the whole presentation, panelists will have 7 minutes to ask questions and offer concise feedback to the students. Both positive comments and constructive suggestions will be encouraged. Following presentations, one group will receive special recognition.

  2. The Portfolio Judging is to select one exemplary portfolio, grades 5-8, to represent Maine at the Annual Project Citizen National Showcase. In Maine, portfolios will be judged without students present. All portfolios/binders must be hand-delivered to KIDS Consortium office, in Auburn, by 4:00pm on May 9 - or they will not be judged.  If you need help with this requirement, please contact us.

Note: the national culminating event is held in conjunction with the annual staff meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Only portfolio materials attend the National Showcase, not students!

Thanks again for the opportunity to participate in the Project Citizen Showcase. The students' work seems to improve each year. I've noticed that the young people have an increasingly better grasp of the meaning of public policy and how to influence it. KIDS Consortium continues to make a big difference in many lives by sponsoring wonderful programs and encouraging participation.
