Sustainability Planning

Overview

The Sustainability Planning workshop is designed to help school district teams identify structures and policies in their schools and communities that affect change and how they can be leveraged to sustain service-learning. Through interactive and collaborative activities, participants will learn strategies that can be used to create a local leadership team and an action plan. Depending on the amount of time available, we can also facilitate the action planning process itself.

Goals and Outcomes

Participants will leave this workshop with concrete approaches for changing current practices and breaking down barriers in school districts and communities to create a supportive climate for service-learning.

Participants will:

  • understand what high quality service-learning is
  • understand the benefit and purpose of a leadership team
  • learn about current research on sustaining service-learning
  • gain tools to help conduct a self-assessment focusing on leadership, curriculum, professional development, administrative policies and community support strategies
  • gain specific strategies and policy examples for sustaining service-learning
  • gain tools and strategies to develop annual goals and measurable objectives

Target Audience and Workshop Length:

Half to two day workshops designed for service-learning advocates and leaders (i.e. curriculum coordinator(s), building administrator(s), representative teacher(s), representative student(s), community partner(s), and/or volunteer coordinator(s), etc.).
