Teaching, Learning, Changing New England (TLC)
Expanding service-learning opportunities for K-12 students throughout the six New England states is the primary objective of this significant three-year initiative supported by the Learn and Serve America Program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
KIDS Consortium is engaged in two levels of work:
- To offer a wide range of professional development opportunities to educators, school administrators and community organizations throughout the region. Over three years, the objective is to engage 450 teachers who are new to service-learning (who in turn will involve 15,000 students in community projects). KIDS staff are also sharing resources at conferences regionally and nationally.
- To support in-depth efforts at fifteen school districts to sustain service-learning through policy, structures and practice. Our partner school districts include -
- Maine: Madison region(SAD 59); Mount Desert Island region, Topsham region (SAD 75);and Westbrook
- New Hampshire: Monadnock and Contoocook Valley
- Vermont: Montpelier and Washington West Supervisory Union
- Massachusetts: Old Rochester and Worcester
- Connecticut: Lisbon and Plainfield
- Rhode Island: Coventry and Blackstone Academy
